An artist-grade watercolor made from Mars Global simulant, a scientifically formulated stand-in for average Martian soil modeled on the Rocknest soil studied by the Curiosity rover. A rust-red earth from another world, hand-milled in small batches.
Mineral composition (simulant data sheet): anorthosite 27.1%, glass-rich basalt 22.9%, bronzite 20.3%, olivine 13.7%, plus minor phases (Mg-sulfate, ferrihydrite, hydrated silica, magnetite, anhydrite, Fe-carbonate, hematite) 16.0%. Median particle size about 71 microns.
